Adventures in puppy-sitting - prelude
How'd you like to puppy-sit a 12 week old Golden-doodle for 5 days? Sounds like fun, doesn't it! And that's exactly what my family is going to be doing starting in just a few hours.
Jonathan in our office and his family are going away to a wedding this weekend and I felt sorry for poor old Ruby going into kennels at such a young age. So I volunteered us to take care of Ruby for the duration.
I grew up with dogs of all ages and sizes and of course, the girls (Ellie aged 4 and Erin aged 2) adore dogs, particularly Erin, so I'm thinking that it's going to be a fun experience all round - and it's only temporary.
My expectations of the weekend are as follows:
the girls will be a bit hestitant to start with but will quickly make friends with Ruby, making her the star of their universe- Barnes and Lily on the other hand will NOT be impressed and will throw many an evil stare at whomever dares enter the basement
- Erin will follow Ruby around everywhere and Ruby will follow Erin everywhere - mayhem ensues
- Ellie will enjoy our temporary puppy at the start but will soon get miffed when Ruby discovers:
- the overflowing tub of soft toys in the corner of our family room [a chewable buffet from a puppy perspective],
- the nose height crates of toddler toys [another smorgasbord of delights], and
- Ellie's carelessly unattended dinner
(don't worry, I'll be puppy proofing the place - no need for emergency visits to remove Mr Spot-a-lump from Ruby's digestive tract)
- it will be hard to pry the girls off Ruby when it comes to sending her back home on Sunday
What do you think - doggy disasters or puppy perfection all weekend?
I'll keep you informed.

Well, considering puppy perfection usually includes a few little doggy disasters, I'm guessing you're all going to have a great weekend. Enjoy!

It looks like you're covering all your bases but that can guarantee disaster is avoided. We just got a new beagle and I often feel like we just had another child. :P
