This is how pre-existing conditions works for an Embrace Pet Insurance policy.
We will reimburse you for treatment your pet receives during the period of insurance due to illness as a result of a condition that was a) not a chronic condition known by you or b) not diagnosed to have first occurred or to have shown clinical signs for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the effective date as certified by your Veterinarian.
So for example,
- if your dog had a one-off ear infection last year, it would be a pre-existing condition for this year. If the same dog did not have an ear infection this year, ear infections would be covered again next year.
- if your cat had kidney disease three years ago, that's a chronic condition and not covered under your policy going forward.
- If your dog broke it's leg last year, any new broken bone would be covered this year. If the same dog had a complication with last year's broken bone this year, this new condition is considered a pre-existing condition and not covered this year.
Sorry to be a bit heavy on the negatives here but I wanted you to see how pre-existing conditions actually worked.
It's all about what you know about your pet's health at the time you sign up for pet insurance since pet insurance is for unexpected accidents and illnesses, not what you already know. That is of course the reason why you should get pet insurance early in a pet's life - you just don't know what unexpected medical events are going to happen.
