We have been gathering your pet health stories on the Embrace Pet Insurance website but lately we've been naughty and have not been posting them as we are in the middle of revamping our whole site.
I didn't want to waste these gems so I'm going to post them here. Please keep sending us your stories here so I can share them with our readers.
Here is the first story. I love it because it just shows how much difference one person can make to a dog’s quality of life:
| Name: | Terrie S. |
| Pet Name: | Baron |
| Pet Age & Breed: | 9 Yrs. / Miniature Schnauzer |
| Pet Treatment: | When Baron was 7, he began having accidents in the house. The pet hospital ran blood tests and diagnosed him with diabetes, brought on by Cushing's Disease. I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle giving Baron insulin shots, but he was very patient with me as I became more skilled at putting him through the twice a day ordeal. He knew that food followed the shots, and he loved to eat! We also put him on Lysodren for the Cushing's. Baron was a real trooper, dealing with weekly visits to the pet hospital to check his blood sugar. It continued to be very high no matter how much we modified the insulin treatments, so another round of blood work was ordered. The results showed that the problem was not the diabetes, it was the Cushing's Disease. It was out of control, so we increased the lysodren dosage and also put him on special dog food that I had to order from the pet hospital. Baron lived 2 years and 2 months with the diabetes and he was like a puppy most of that time. I hadn't realized how lethargic he'd become before his diagnosis because it happened gradually. The insulin literally made him a new dog! It gave him his life back. |
| Pet Treatment Costs: | Over the course of 2 years I purchased the following regularly: insulin, needles, Lysodren pills, special dog food, weekly blood sugar checks, 2 rounds of extensive blood work, 2 trips to the emergency pet clinic when Baron went into insulin shock. Total cost: $2,500+ |
