I know I'm a little behind the times on this book but if you love the human/animal bond, I highly recommend Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan.
John Grogan's writing really reminds me of A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle with the same witty but poignent observations of living with Marley and Marley's impact on the author's life. A real delight indeed.
